Those of us fortunate to have permanent positions in the public sector have been spared the worst of the economic impact that has hit many. However, home office and getting to grips with online education have created fresh and additional challenges. There have been stresses and uncertainties with the new semester in which everyone has to keep in mind such as social distancing, protection from infection, etc. We look forward to emerging from this situation, in the meantime MatRIC continues, albeit with some changes to plans and actions.

MatRIC Annual Conference

There will not be an annual conference this autumn 2020.

MNT(STEM) Conference 2021

This will be a major event in MatRIC's calendar. We hope there will be many mathematics lecturers working in Norwegian higher education institutions who will use this conference as an opportunity to report their efforts to improve and transform teaching and learning mathematics. Planning is going ahead for the MNT Conference to be held in Kristiansand 15-16 March 2021, see the announcement (in Norwegian) at https://realfagsrekruttering.no/konferanser/mnt-konferansen-2021#om-konferansen. Call for abstracts for presentations is out, with closing date 15 October.

MatRIC online seminars

In the summer MatRIC hosted an online seminar about digital teaching. This Zoom meeting was well-attended. A video recording of the presentations and the PowerPoint slides can be found here.

MatRIC Research

A review of MatRIC research grants is now underway. We hope to be able to announce a new opportunity to apply for small grants to support developmental research into teaching and learning mathematics in Norwegian higher education institutions.

More will be announced here on MatRIC's homepage and MatRIC's Newsletter as new actions and events are planned.
